The Return of the Maestro: Michael Carrick Signs as Manchester United Interim Boss.

Michael Carrick has officially signed a contract to become Manchester United’s interim head coach until the end of the 2025/26 season. Following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim last week, the club’s hierarchy—led by CEO Omar Berrada and Sporting Director Jason Wilcox—moved swiftly to secure the former United captain.

Carrick, who recently left his post at Middlesbrough, was pictured arriving at the Carrington training ground on Tuesday to finalize the paperwork. While club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was also considered, Carrick’s tactical vision and modern coaching philosophy reportedly made him the preferred choice to steady a "team in crisis."

The Details:

The Contract: An interim deal running until June 2026. Reports suggest an "audition" clause exists; a top-four finish could lead to a permanent appointment.

The Coaching Staff: Carrick is bringing in a heavy-hitting backroom team, including former England assistant Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, and current United defender Jonny Evans in a player-coach capacity.

The Objective: Inheriting a side sitting 7th in the Premier League and out of both domestic cups, Carrick's sole focus is securing Champions League qualification.

Carrick’s second stint in the dugout begins with a "baptism of fire" this Saturday: the Manchester Derby against City at Old Trafford.
